Attitude
October 25, 2007 on 7:32 pm | In Business Motivations | 4 CommentsYour attitude determines the state of world you live in. It is the foundation for every success and every failure you have had and will have. Your attitude will make you or break you.
Attitude creates the way you feel about people and situations. Your actions are a result of your attitude, which in turn creates a reaction from others. So, basically what you think … you get. It is your attitude toward others and the Universe that determines their attitude towards you. Incorporate a positive joyful attitude and you’ll have positive joyful results. Put out a bad, negative attitude and you’ve failed before you begin.
I know it sounds simple, but the truth is….it IS simple!
WHERE DO NEGATIVE ATTITUDES COME FROM IN THE FIRST PLACE?
Negative attitudes come from thinking negative thoughts over and over until they have become a part of your subconscious. They’ve become a habitual part of your personality. You may not even realize you have a negative attitude because it’s been with you for so long. Once you have a bad attitude, you expect failure and disaster. This expectation turns you into a strong magnet for failure and disaster. Then it becomes a vicious circle. When you expect the worst -you get the worst -your negative beliefs are then reinforced-you expect the worst- you get …
. . . Get the picture?
SO, HOW DO WE SHIFT OUR THOUGHTS AND CREATE A POSITIVE ATTITUDE?
It takes work, but creating anything of value takes work. In order to have a new attitude we have to change our subconscious thinking. How do we do this? Analyze every thought we have until positive thinking becomes a habit. You’re merely replacing an old habit with a healthy habit, much like replacing exercise for smoking.
You can’t just stop being negative – you have to replace those negative thoughts with positive ones.
Some people would say, “But negative situations are a reality. They just show up in every day life.”
Situations are a reality, yes. They do show up, however it is your ATTITUDE that makes a situation positive or negative. It’s time for you to realize that YOU are in control of how you think and feel – no one else on earth has this power unless you give it away. Take control of your attitude, and you take control of your results.
Your state of mind creates the state of your results.
Engage All Out
October 21, 2007 on 9:51 am | In Business Motivations | 6 CommentsIf we are involved in OurGV, how hard should we work at it? How much time should we put in?
Our philosophy about activity and our attitude about hard work will affect the quality of our lives. What we decide about the right ratio of labor to rest will establish a certain work ethic. That work ethic, our attitude about the amount of labor we are willing to commit to future fortune, will determine how substantial or how meager that fortune turns out to be.
Enterprise is always better than ease. Every time we choose to do less than we could, this error in judgment has an effect on our self-confidence. Repeated every day, we soon find ourselves not only doing less than we should, but also being less than we could. The accumulative effect of this error in judgment can be devastating.
— Fortunately, It is Easy to Reverse the Process —
We can choose at any day to develop a new discipline of doing rather than neglecting. Every time we choose action over ease or labor over rest, we develop an increasing level of self-worth, self-respect and self-confidence. In the final analysis, it is how we feel about ourselves that provides the greatest reward from any activity. It is not what we get that makes us valuable, it is what we become in the process of doing that brings value into our lives. It is activity that converts human dreams into human reality, and that conversion from idea into actuality gives us a personal value that can come from no other source.
So feel free to not only engage in this business, but also to enjoy it to it’s fullest along with all the benefits that are soon to come!
Handling Worry
October 16, 2007 on 10:04 am | In Business Motivations | 4 CommentsInstead of spending your time thinking about how bad things are, think about how good they will be!Everyone knows that a positive attitude is key to the successful life. But what happens when things go wrong? What happens when circumstances deal us a blow? We have a tendency to let our attitudes take the dive along with our state of affairs. Life deals us setbacks, both minor and major on a regular basis, but if we are going to be successful, we need to know how to deal with them and keep our attitudes intact! We need practical tools to help us understand how we can go about keeping our attitude up, when the circumstances are down. Here are some thoughts to help us:
Take some time-out. I’m sure you are aware of what happens. You are going about your day and everything seems to be going well, when out of nowhere disaster strikes. All of your best laid out plans begin to tumble. Sometimes circumstances surprise us and we react. Unfortunately, this often compounds the problem because by reacting we tend to operate out of our weaknesses instead of our strengths. We make decisions that are not well thought out. We function with a bad attitude that says, “I can’t believe this is happening!”
The next time circumstances turn against you, take some time to just step back from the problem and think. This will enable you to deal with the issue at hand rationally, instead of emotionally. It will allow you to put your state of mind back into its proper place. It gives you the opportunity to choose your attitude as you face the circumstances at hand. Remember that we don’t have to do something right now. Go grab a cup of coffee and relax little bit. By doing this you function with you being in control and not the circumstances.
Keep your eye on the goal. A second step in keeping our attitude in the proper place is to make sure we keep the important things important. One of the biggest problems with trouble is that it gets your focus off of where it should be. When I experience difficult circumstances and people ask me how it is going, I tell them, “I am just keeping my eye on the goal.” It has always been fascinating to me that when race car drivers get into trouble, they keep their eyes straight ahead and do not move them. There is just too big of a chance of wrecking that way. Instead, their eyes are on the goal, and this keeps them out of trouble. If you find yourself getting down about circumstances, sit down and write out what the goal is. Give some thought to how you can achieve that goal or others you may have.
Focus on solutions, not problems. The squeaky wheel gets the oil, the old saying goes. Negative circumstances don’t sit by idly. They scream for our attention. When we face difficult circumstances, we tend to dwell on them. We talk about them, fret about them, and give them way too much attention. Instead of talking about problems, talk about solutions. Instead of spending your time thinking about how bad things are, think about how good they will be! Don’t have family or staff meetings about the problems and how big they are. Have meetings on the solutions and how you will implement them. Don’t let yourself or other team members complain. Encourage them to solve, with an emphasis on the positive results that will come from doing so. Then take some time to put these solutions down on paper, so you can monitor your progress.
Get some positive input. The mind tends to build on itself, so when we begin to go in one direction, i.e. worry, it can be a slippery slope. We often create a horror movie in our mind. We take different people and different problems and insert them into the same scary movie that has created the same negative emotions in us for years. One thing we must do is get our thoughts back on track with positive ideas. When circumstances have got you against the emotional wall, watch one of the coaching videos, read this blog, think about your future goals. Pick up a good book and give it a read. Whatever external influence you can get to put your attitude back on the positive side of the tracks - do it! It must be one of our first goals to start plugging good things into our minds to fuel our attitudes.
Tell yourself the good. One of the greatest internal powers we have is the power to control our thoughts. Spend time dwelling on the good things about your life or business instead of the problems. Think about positive things, things you enjoy and give you a sense of happiness and peace. There is an old childhood song that says, “Count your blessings, name them one by one.” That is great advice! Let your positive attitude develop from within as well as from without. This makes all the difference!
Remember that circumstances are not forever. Sometimes it seems like we are going to be up to our eyeballs in the situation forever, when in reality this too shall pass. We have been stressed out with worry before, haven’t we? There will be a time in the future when circumstances will change and you will be on the mountain instead of the valley. This will give you a sense of hope as you live and work, and that will change your attitude, make you feel better and put you on the fast track for growth!
Some questions as we close:
Q. Do you have a habit of reflection before responding?
Q. Do you have a habit of keeping your eye on the goal?
Q. Do you focus on solutions or problems?
Q. Do you give yourself positive outside influence?
Q. Do you have a habit of telling yourself the good?
Q. Do you remind yourself that nothing is forever?
Believe In Yourself!
October 10, 2007 on 9:35 pm | In Business Motivations | 4 CommentsIf you’re hampered by doubt, the cure begins when you decide that you really want to change. It is when you become determined and are able to say, “I do want to believe in myself.” You never really know what you can do until you try. If you keep moving ahead with determination, thinking positively at all times, trying over and over again, you will not fail.
If you feel you could improve your ability to believe, here are a few suggestions. They are simple concrete things that you can do each day. With repetition, thinking in this manner will become natural to you and you will find that you are feeling more confident and that you do believe in yourself.
Whenever a negative thought about yourself comes to mind, deliberately voice a positive thought to cancel it out. Don’t build up obstacles in your imagination, minimize them instead.
If you want to eliminate a problem, study it thoroughly but always look at it realistically. See it for what it really is. Never inflate a problem by fearful thoughts. Never think of yourself as failing. Such thinking can be very dangerous, for the mind always tries to complete what it pictures. Instead, stamp indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself succeeding. Repeat to yourself over and over and over, “I can. I can. I can.” That message will soon extinguish all thoughts to the contrary.
Failure comes most often to people who are shattered and unable to focus. Everything seems to elude them, their grasp is weak, their direction vague, and their impact uncertain.
If you want to do something and do it well, you have to get pulled together. That means organizing your entire being so that every element of your personality is operating harmoniously.
With inner conflicts resolved and clarity established, all your talents get a “go” signal to function in a unified manner. People who are pulled together waste little energy. They never keep themselves from getting what they want.
To get anywhere in life, you have to be motivated and that motivation must be directed or channeled. You have to know what you want to do, what you need to do best, where you want to go, and how to get there. This is a big part of being focused and organized. And, to all of this you must add “deep desire.” A driving force and the willingness to work, work, work, and never, never give up.
You need to picture your goal clearly and hold this image tenaciously in your conscious mind. Don’t let it slip or fade.
After a while, the goal sinks into your subconscious, and when you have it firmly fixed there, you’ve arrived. You have it! Why? Because, it has you—all of you. Your hopes. Your thoughts. Your efforts.
Dynamic thinking like this affects the outcome of a situation because there is a deep tendency in human nature to become precisely like that which we habitually imagined ourselves to be.
The word “imagination” actually implies “imaging,” and that is a very important part of achieving your goal. When you form a concrete image of yourself in the place or situation you long for and continually see yourself there and feel yourself there as if it were happening this minute, without a doubt, one day you will be there.
Another term for the imaging procedure is “creative anticipation.” The first time I heard this phrase was from a psychologist trying to help a young man who was caught in a spiraling pattern of repeated failure.
He explained that the trouble with this young man is that subconsciously he always expects the worst to happen. With that expectation, his mind tends to picture that failure situation and then create it.
To halt this process, he must be taught to expect the best and to confidently imagine successful outcomes. After a while, the practice of creative anticipation should teach him to believe in his own potential. And indeed once the man learned to think confidently, he began expecting good things to happen, and they did.
Gradually, this became his pattern. The person who visualizes himself achieving, rather than failing, and who is willing to pay the price of intensive study and sustained effort, is the person who advances toward his goal.
That mental vision is vital, for what we become is closely related to our basic self-image. What we think and what we visualize is to a large degree what we are bound to become.
Years ago, I heard a story that has stayed with me because it confirms both the power of the self-image and the creative anticipation principle. It seems that a famous trapeze performer had a group of students—young people who were eager to become performing stars. The class went through all the lesser stunts. Now the time came for each to perform on the high trapeze bar. All but one got through this test satisfactorily. This student looked up at the bar, and at once a negative self-image took over. He visualized the worst. One slip and he would plunge to the ground. He froze and couldn’t move a muscle. His imagination prevented him from performing.
Terrified, the boy stammered, “I can’t. I cannot do it. I see myself falling. I just cannot do it.” The older man stepped in, “If I did not know you were capable, I would not ask you to do this. Look. I’ll tell you how. First, throw your heart over that bar up there, and your body will follow.”
He meant, of course, to throw faith and confidence and an image of achievement over the difficulty, and the material part would follow along naturally. It was very wise advice.
The boy’s thinking unfroze. The mental image was changed, and he was finally able to pass his test without incident.
Now put strong positive thoughts behind your goal. Never let negative thoughts surround you, for the negative thinker unleashes destructive forces that can destroy him . It’s the law of attraction at work. Light attracts light. Thoughts of a kind have a natural affinity.
By sending out negative thoughts, the negative thinker activates the world around him negatively. He tends to draws back to himself negative results. The positive thinker, on the other hand, sends out optimistic thoughts and, thus, activates the world around him positively.
On the basis of the same law of attraction, he draws back to himself positive thoughts. He works and keeps on working. He thinks and keeps on thinking. He believes and keeps on believing. He never lets up,never gives in. He gives the effort the full treatment of positive faith and action. Result: His dreams comes true. He can because he thinks he can.
As you encounter life’s challenges or as you dream your dreams, never write off anything as impossible. Remember, you have the mental capacity to think your way through any problem if you draw fully upon your mind. Think hopefully. Get your mental powers really working, and things can turn out better than they now appear.
Everyone encounters defeating factors in life. But those who think they can, do not give in. By drawing upon their inner powers of mind and spirit, they simply refuse to be defeated. They know that even the most difficult situation can be overcome. So, they proceed to overcome them. The hopeful thinker projects hope and faith—both miracle elements—into the darkest situation and lights it up. As long as you keep the crippling thought of defeat out of your mind, defeat cannot defeat you. You can be a winner.
Don’t Recruit Ducks!
October 5, 2007 on 2:04 pm | In Business Motivations | 5 CommentsThe first rule of management is: don’t send your ducks to eagle school. Why? Because it won’t work. Good people are found not changed. They can change themselves, but you can’t change them. You want good people, you have to find them. If you want motivated people, you have to find them, not motivate them.
I picked up a magazine not long ago that had a full-page ad for a hotel chain. The first line of the ad read, “We do not teach our people to be nice.” Now that got my attention. The second line said, “We hire nice people.” I thought, “what a cleaver shortcut!’
Motivation is a mystery. Why are some people motivated and some are not? Why does one affiliate start calling prospects at eight in the morning while the other starts much later? Why do some work with urgency and others act like they are getting paid by the hour? I don´t know. Call it “mysteries of the mind. I give trainings online to people all over the world. One logs out and says, “I’m going to change my life.” Another logs out with a yawn and says, “I’ve heard all this stuff before.” Why is that? I say to a thousands of people, “I use to be broke and learned to do things differently, and it brought me to the road to wealth. I put it into video’s online go watch them.” Guess how many of the thousand go out and study them? Answer: very few. Isn’t that incredible? Why wouldn’t everyone go watch them 30x over like I did to learn the concepts myself? Mysteries of the mind…To one person, you have to say, “You’d better slow down. You can’t work that many hours, or do that many things. You´re going to have a heart attack and die.” And to another person you have to say, “When are you going to get off the couch?”
What is the difference? Why wouldn’t everyone strive to be wealthy and happy? Chalk it up to mysteries of the mind and don’t waste your time trying to turn ducks into eagles. Hire people who already have the motivation and drive to be eagles and then just let them soar.
Iceberg
October 2, 2007 on 2:11 pm | In Business Motivations | 2 CommentsPicture the iceberg. Part of it is above the surface and part of it below. Much of what gives you stability above the surface, depends on the actual stability of what’s below the surface. To be successful on the outside, look at what is in the inside. We can’t just “act” our way to success . We have to deal with what’s inside us internally and our ideas of success. When we are calling people and prospecting, they are external representations of who we are on the inside. We all vision cast and have been taught to “Act as if you were making whatever your goal was.” These are great concepts if they truly match the disciplines and thoughts within. When they do match, that is when things really start to take place. Imagine the iceberg with nothing below the surface. It would not be very stable would it? This is similar to when our strength is not coming from within, and we try and portray a vision on the outside only.
